I am a technical editor for Scientific Societies, a non-profit organization in Eagan, Minnesota. I provide proofreading and editing services to members of the American Phytopathological Society. I also provide support for authors submitting new papers to the journal Plant Disease.
My work for Scientific Societies has included numerous books related to food, plant, and brewing sciences, as well as ongoing work on a number of scientific journals and newsletters. I am currently in charge of proofing and new submissions for the journal Plant Disease.
Prior to joining Scientific Societies, I completed a software documentation project for Reliable Property Services (formerly Reliable Snow Plowing). I documented every feature of their existing database software, noting how different functions worked and pointing out bugs and unimplemented features in the software. As part of this project, I provided the company with an 8-page user guide and a 37-page detailed reference manual.
My first work in the editing field came with a 10-month internship in China. I worked for the Institute of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics at Xi’an Jiaotong University, where I edited papers for graduate students and professors. This unique experience working with non-native English speakers was especially useful and challenged my communication skills, requiring extra caution in making sure my editing was being done correctly.
